Imagine

This piece was inspired by my daughter Annabelle. One day she was swinging on her swing shouting out the alphabet. As I watched her get higher and higher she started to laugh hysterically. When I asked her why she was laughing she said because it felt like she was floating. This piece is a balance of imagination and education. The letters and the numbers are the alphabet A-Z and numbers 1-10 to show progression in a young girl's life. The swing is life itself; sometimes we move forward and sometimes backward. The butterflies give a sense of floating, the shadows represent moving forward, and the lines at the bottom represent milestones as we get older. The only way we get to a new milestone is to follow our dreams of flying and learn to kick our legs.

  1. I really love this one. However I think you need to put a cute kid related quote behind her, maybe a scripture or maybe even a few lines to a fun childrens song. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something fun and whimsical because that print would make an awesome piece for a nursery or a child's room. Jess would be the talk of every baby shower and people in your ward and friends will be jealous until they get one too. I'm just saying. Love it!!

  2. I like this one for a silly reason. I used to have a re-occurring dream about me flying. I flew in a swing like this. sometimes amde out of a long scarf, soit brings me some great memories. I like the idea behind this artwork, but I agree with the above comment, that I'd like it better if the words said something, like a primary song, or anursery rhyme verse or just whimsical words.

  3. Like the others I really really like this one. but for me I like the letters and numbers jumbled. I view it as the letters and numbers entering the child and what comes out are beautiful colorful butterflies. I only think the letters and numbers should be entering her mind and not her back. I actually would like to know what you were thinking when you did this one.

  4. Ok, Two suggestions. The lines don't really say "moving forward" to me because they are in fact not moving forward. Maybe change position. I don't know if that can be done without them getting in the way of something else. Also, I love the story behind everything in this one. I think you should keep it simple and just have the alphabet in order. Not all jumbled around and no numbers.

  5. Thank you all for your comments. Jessica the lines don't suggest "moving forward" they represent milestone in the girls life. Again thanks for the comments and suggestions :)

  6. I'd suggest having the butterflies be black and white too because the colors makes it the first thing I look at. Then I'm drawn to the letters because I'm trying to figure out if it spells something. If you don't want to do a phrase (as suggested by 2 previous comments) then maybe putting them in order so it's clear that you are portraying education.
I love the concept, keep using your kids as inspiration!
